Shimla: A one-day National Malayalam Translation Seminar was organised at the historic Gaiety Theatre by the Himalaya Sahitya Sanskriti Evam Paryavaran Manch, where four books translated from Hindi into Malayalam were formally released.

The event witnessed the presence of eminent literary figures including chief guest Hemant, Editor-in-Chief of Himachal Dastak, noted critic Dr. Hemraj Kaushik, and senior writer-translator Prof. Meenakshi F. Paul. Translators and authors from Kerala—Prof. (Dr.) Sreelatha Vishnu, Dr. Mohanan V.T.V., and Dr. Indu K.V.—also attended the function.

The books released included two novels—Nadi Rang Jaisi Ladki and Hidimb—and a story collection by noted Himachali writer S.R. Harnot, along with a poetry collection by Rajan Tanwar. The translations were carried out by Sreelatha Vishnu, Mohanan V.T.V., and Indu K.V., all of whom have also been fellows at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest highlighted the importance of translation in bridging cultures, languages, and literary traditions, noting that such efforts enhance accessibility and foster deeper understanding between regions.

Scholars and translators emphasized that works of S.R. Harnot are already part of academic curricula in Kerala and enjoy popularity among readers, further strengthening literary ties between Himachal Pradesh and Kerala.

The seminar, attended by over 70 writers, students, and literature enthusiasts, underscored the growing importance of translation in expanding the reach of regional literature and promoting cultural exchange.
