Sanskrit Day Celebrated with Eloquence, Shlokas and Young Talent in Shimla
Shimla, August 27, 2026: The Department of Language and Culture, Shimla, organised a vibrant Sanskrit Day celebration at Government Senior Secondary School, Annadale, bringing together students from schools across the district.
The programme featured speech and Shloka recitation competitions in senior and junior categories. Students impressed the audience with fluent Sanskrit speeches, accurate pronunciation and expressive recitations, showcasing their growing connection with the ancient language.
In the senior speech competition, Urvashi Sharma (Chhota Shimla) secured first place, followed by Ruchika (Kaithu) and Maharani (Annadale). In the junior category, Saumya (Annadale) stood first, with Anvi (Lakkar Bazaar) second and Yashika Thakur (Chhota Shimla) third.
In senior Shloka recitation, Riddhima (Chiyog) won first place, Shivani (Baluganj) second, while the third position went to a student of Government Senior Secondary School, Bani. In the junior category, Paridhi (Annadale) and Urvashi (Chhota Shimla) shared first place, followed by Mayank (Annadale) and Kavyanshi (Baluganj).
The winners were honoured with prizes and certificates. Speakers highlighted Sanskrit’s role in India’s knowledge traditions, including Ayurveda, yoga, philosophy and literature, describing it as more than a language—a link to India’s cultural heritage.
