Hamirpur, April 24:Assistant Engineer Akshay Kumar has urged consumers in Nadaun not to obstruct the ongoing installation of smart electricity meters under the Government of India’s RDSS scheme.

He informed that old meters are being replaced with smart meters without imposing any additional financial burden on consumers. As per the Central Electricity Authority regulations, installation of smart meters within the stipulated timeframe is mandatory.

Citing provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003, the official stated that authorized personnel have the right to enter premises for meter inspection, repair, or replacement. In case of denial of access, electricity supply may be temporarily disconnected after due notice.

The meter replacement work in Nadaun has been assigned to an authorized agency, but some consumers are reportedly not allowing entry, which is against regulations.

The Assistant Engineer clarified that installation of smart meters will not affect existing tariffs or subsidies for consumers. He appealed to the public to cooperate with officials to ensure a transparent, efficient, and reliable power supply system.

He further warned that strict action, including disconnection of electricity supply, may be taken against those obstructing the process.
