Stock Limit Fixed for Wholesale Sugar Traders in Kullu

Kullu, August 27: To check the rising prices of sugar and ensure adequate availability in the market, the district administration has intensified monitoring of sugar stocks and storage across Kullu district.

District Controller, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Pawan Kumar, said that a stock limit has been fixed for wholesale sugar traders operating in the district. Under the prescribed arrangements, all wholesale traders collectively cannot hold more than 400 metric tonnes of sugar in stock.

Necessary directions have been issued to all wholesale traders to ensure compliance. All registered wholesalers are also required to update their daily sugar stock regularly on the Food Stock Portal to enable continuous monitoring of actual availability and ensure that stocks do not exceed the prescribed limit.

A separate storage limit has also been prescribed for bulk consumers whose monthly sugar consumption exceeds 10 metric tonnes. Such consumers cannot store sugar beyond their average 15-day consumption.

The District Controller said departmental inspectors have been directed to conduct regular field inspections. During these inspections, the available stock, prescribed storage limits and daily stock details uploaded on the portal will be verified.

Strict action will be taken against traders found storing sugar beyond the prescribed limit or violating the applicable regulations.

The initiative aims to ensure adequate sugar availability, prevent hoarding and black marketing, and protect consumers from unjustified price increases. Regular updating of stock details will also facilitate effective and continuous monitoring of sugar availability in the district.
