Celebrating Spirit of Freedom: Bahra University Shares Joy, Hope and Inclusion with IAMD
Solan, Himachal Pradesh | August 15, 2026
As India proudly steps into its 80th year of Independence, the spirit of patriotism, unity and pride continues to resonate across the nation. In the serene lap of the Shivalik ranges, Bahra University, Waknaghat, Solan, celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm, pride and a meaningful message of inclusion.
While a special flag-hoisting ceremony was organised at the university campus, this year’s celebrations extended beyond the campus to the Indian Association for Muscular Dystrophy (IAMD), Kothon, Solan, making the occasion especially memorable.
A team from Bahra University, under the aegis of Director Students Welfare, Mr. Anurag Awasthi, comprising students from the Department of Physiotherapy and members of the Students’ Council, visited the IAMD centre to celebrate the national occasion with patients, their parents, doctors and staff members.
The atmosphere at IAMD was filled with energy, warmth and positivity. Students interacted with patients and their families, shared the joy of Independence Day and participated in moments of celebration and togetherness. The occasion reflected a simple yet powerful thought—the spirit of Independence becomes more meaningful when it reaches every section of society.
A Meaningful Learning Experience for Physiotherapy Students
For the students of Bahra University’s Department of Physiotherapy, the visit was much more than an Independence Day celebration. It became a valuable experiential learning opportunity.
Interacting with patients, their parents, doctors and healthcare professionals allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges associated with muscular dystrophy and the importance of empathy, communication, patience and patient-centred care.
Such experiences take learning beyond classrooms and laboratories. They help future healthcare professionals understand that physiotherapy is not only about clinical treatment, but also about confidence, dignity, emotional support and improving quality of life.
The interaction with the IAMD community also helped students appreciate the importance of family support, community-based care and a multidisciplinary approach in healthcare.
“Independence Means Dignity, Hope and Inclusion”
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vipul Goyal, General Secretary, IAMD, appreciated the presence of the Bahra University team and said:
“Independence is truly meaningful when every individual has the opportunity to live with dignity, respect and hope. We are happy to have the Bahra University team and students with us on this special occasion. Their presence has brought tremendous positivity to our patients and families, while giving the students an opportunity to learn from real-life experiences. Such associations promote empathy, awareness and the spirit of inclusion in society.”
The association between Bahra University and IAMD also highlighted the importance of meaningful university-community partnerships. Such engagements provide students with opportunities to learn from real-world experiences while contributing positively to the community.
For the IAMD community, the presence of the students created an atmosphere of companionship and celebration. For the students, it offered valuable lessons in resilience, empathy and human connection.
The Independence Day celebration at Kothon therefore became more than a ceremonial programme. It became a celebration of freedom, friendship, learning and humanity.
As the tricolour continues to inspire the nation in its 80th year of Independence, the celebration carried a powerful message:
“The true spirit of freedom lies in ensuring that every individual is valued, respected and given the opportunity to live with dignity, hope and inclusion.”
For Bahra University, this Independence Day was not just a celebration—it was an opportunity to learn, connect, share and celebrate the human spirit together.
