Kullu Reviews Food Safety Measures Ahead of Tourist Season

Kullu, June 16: A high-level meeting was held in Kullu to review the implementation of food safety and hygiene standards under the Food Safety and Standards Act, with a focus on ensuring safe and quality food for residents and tourists.
The meeting was chaired by Food Safety Assistant Commissioner Anil Sharma and attended by officials from the Food Safety Department, Health Department, local administration and other concerned agencies.
Participants reviewed the compliance status of hotels, restaurants, dhabas, sweet shops, bakeries, grocery stores and other food business operators across the district. Discussions focused on maintaining food quality, preventing adulteration and strengthening consumer health protection measures.
Anil Sharma directed officials to conduct regular inspection drives and collect food samples as per prescribed standards. He emphasized strict action against establishments found violating hygiene norms or food safety regulations.
With the tourist season underway, special attention was given to cleanliness standards in hotels, restaurants and fast-food outlets, including safe food storage, availability of clean drinking water, personal hygiene of staff and proper kitchen sanitation practices.
The meeting also stressed the importance of valid licences and registrations for food business operators and encouraged timely renewals to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
Officials urged consumers to check product quality, packaging, manufacturing and expiry dates before purchasing food items and to report any cases of adulteration or food safety violations to the concerned authorities.
Anil Sharma also highlighted the district’s Food Testing Van initiative, which provides on-the-spot food testing services and conducts awareness programmes in schools to educate students about food quality and safety.
On the occasion, hygiene rating certificates were presented to Anandgram, Mohal, while hygiene rating certification was awarded to AD Hydroproject Limited. A Bhog Certificate was also presented to Sharvari Temple for maintaining prescribed food safety standards.
