Culture is Our True Heritage, Says Sanjay Awasthi at Bania Devi Fair

Arki, June 16: Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi said that culture is the true heritage of society and preserving it is a collective responsibility. He was addressing a gathering at the Bania Devi Fair organized in Gram Panchayat Bakhalag of the Arki Assembly constituency.

Earlier, Awasthi offered prayers at the historic Maa Van Durga Temple, Bania Devi, and prayed for the prosperity and well-being of the people of the region.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that fairs and festivals are symbols of the state’s rich cultural and spiritual traditions and play a vital role in connecting the younger generation with their roots. He emphasized that community participation is essential for preserving and promoting Himachal Pradesh’s vibrant Dev Culture.

The MLA said that fairs not only help keep traditions alive but also strengthen social harmony and brotherhood. In the digital age, such gatherings have become even more important in fostering community interaction and cultural awareness.

Highlighting the historical significance of the shrine, Awasthi said the Bania Devi Temple has a history spanning nearly 450 years and attracts devotees from far-off places. He added that the area holds immense potential for religious tourism, which could contribute to regional development and create employment opportunities.

On the occasion, he announced ₹5 lakh for the initial phase of temple beautification works, ₹1 lakh for installing grills at Ghyasi Mata Devi Temple, and ₹2 lakh for the construction of the Gopal House–Manjhli Bed Dharno road. He also assured financial support for the construction of a main gateway on the Didu–Bania Devi road and the Bhindi–Jablu road project as per approved estimates.

Awasthi further announced ₹21,000 for the fair committee and ₹11,000 for Mahila Mandal Dharno to purchase essential materials.

The MLA also listened to public grievances and directed officials to ensure their prompt resolution. Cultural performances by artists associated with the Department of Information and Public Relations added color to the celebrations.
