Shimla, January 11: Sneha Sharma, a Class 12 student from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sunni, secured the first position in the state-level debate competition organized among PM SHRI schools of Himachal Pradesh. Her compelling arguments in favor of the topic “One Nation, One Election” earned her accolades from Dr. Suresh Thakur, the head of PM SHRI schools in the state, and Principal Vipin Kumar Raghuvanshi, who presented her with an award.

During the competition held at her school, Sneha argued that implementing simultaneous elections through constitutional amendments would accelerate the nation’s development. She emphasized that financial and human resources currently tied up in frequent elections could instead be utilized to achieve the mission of making India a developed nation by 2047.

She highlighted that after Independence, elections to the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies were held simultaneously. However, this practice was disrupted due to specific political circumstances. She pointed out that the frequent elections in the country result in prolonged periods of inactivity due to the Model Code of Conduct. Her arguments were well-received and praised by senior officials from the education department.
