Shimla, June 7: In a significant step towards promoting environmental awareness and sustainable lifestyles among students, the Himachal Pradesh Government and UNESCO have launched the Eco Club for Mission LiFE Activity Calendar 2026-27 for schools across the state.

Released on the occasion of World Environment Day under the HP FUTURES initiative, the calendar will serve as a year-long roadmap for schools to undertake activities related to tree plantation, waste management, water conservation, cleanliness drives and biodiversity protection. The initiative aims to nurture environmental responsibility, leadership skills and sustainable habits among students.

Alongside the calendar, several knowledge-based resources were also unveiled, including the State of Greening Education Report for Himachal Pradesh, a report on Competency-Based Education and 21st Century Skills, Green School Quality Standards, a Greening Education Toolkit for Eco Clubs and implementation-focused resource papers for education stakeholders.

Samagra Shiksha Director Rajesh Sharma said the initiative would make environmental education more practical and action-oriented, helping students adopt sustainable lifestyles while supporting the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework 2023.

The initiative marks a major step towards building climate-resilient, inclusive and future-ready schools across Himachal Pradesh.
