Shimla: Himachal Pradesh has taken a significant step toward strengthening the emotional and mental well-being of school students by expanding the Social, Emotional and Ethical (SEE) Learning programme under Samagra Shiksha. Implemented in collaboration with Piramal Foundation, the initiative is already running successfully in several schools and is now being scaled up across the state.
As part of the expansion, a three-day SEE Learning Educators’ Workshop was organized in Reckong Peo. The workshop, jointly conducted by Samagra Shiksha, Piramal Foundation, Emory University (USA), and Chhos Khor Ling Buddhist Welfare Society, brought together 60 government and private school principals, teachers, and DIET trainee teachers. Participants received practical training on integrating social, emotional, and ethical learning into classroom teaching.
Addressing the workshop, Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche said SEE Learning is inspired by India’s ancient knowledge traditions and reflects the vision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to integrate compassion and ethical values into modern education. Dr. Lobsang Tenzin Negi, Executive Director of the Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics at Emory University, said the programme would promote compassion, sensitivity, and ethical values in society.
Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Amit Sharma praised the initiative, emphasizing the need for such programmes to support students’ holistic development, emotional balance, and ethical outlook.
Samagra Shiksha State Nodal Officer Varsha Sood said the programme is being implemented with full commitment and that around **₹50 lakh** has been approved for its effective implementation during the current financial year. Piramal Foundation Director Ishan Sharma said the foundation is currently implementing SEE Learning across seven Indian states and is working to expand its reach further.
The three-day workshop aims to equip educators with the understanding, perspective, and practical skills needed to integrate social, emotional, and ethical competencies into school education, making learning more compassionate, humane, and holistic.
