Cyclists Pedal for Sustainability in Shimla

Shimla, June 5: Hundreds of cycling enthusiasts came together in Shimla on World Environment Day to participate in a special cycling ride aimed at promoting environmental conservation, sustainable mobility and healthy lifestyles. The event highlighted cycling as an eco-friendly alternative to reduce carbon emissions and contribute towards a cleaner future.
The ride passed through several iconic landmarks and heritage locations of the city, including Oak Over, Lok Bhawan, Forest Road, St. Bede’s and the historic Ridge, showcasing Shimla’s unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. The event concluded at the official residence of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
Addressing the participants, the Chief Minister lauded the cycling community for its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable transportation. He emphasized the need for collective action to preserve natural resources and encouraged citizens to adopt environmentally responsible lifestyles for a greener Himachal Pradesh.
The event was attended by senior government officials, including Chief Secretary Kamlesh Kumar Pant, Head of Forest Force Sanjay Sood, senior forest officers and officials from the Eco-Tourism and Forest Departments, who extended their support to the cause of environmental sustainability.
Cycling Association Honorary Secretary Mohit Sood, environmental advocates and citizens from different walks of life also participated enthusiastically. The ride concluded with a collective pledge to promote cycling, reduce pollution, conserve nature and strengthen environmental stewardship across the state.
Organisers described the event as a powerful reminder that small individual actions can make a significant difference in building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable future.
