Jai Ram Thakur Welcomes Supreme Court Verdict on Recruitment Law

Leader of Opposition and former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the High Court’s ruling against the Himachal Pradesh Government Employees Recruitment and Conditions of Service Act, 2024, describing it as a setback to the state government’s policy.

In a statement issued from Shimla, Thakur alleged that the legislation was unconstitutional and claimed that the state government had enacted it to delay financial liabilities related to employees’ seniority benefits. He said the Supreme Court dismissed the state’s appeal in the matter after the High Court had earlier struck down the law.

The BJP leader further accused the Sukhu government of repeatedly introducing measures that were later invalidated by courts, citing previous judgments on issues including CPS appointments, the Water Commission, pension-related legislation, electricity tariff decisions, and Panchayat election matters. He also criticised the government for spending significant public funds on legal proceedings.

Thakur additionally accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of blaming the BJP for various issues, including recent reports regarding the Chief Minister’s declared assets, asserting that the information was based on election affidavit disclosures.

Commenting on national developments, the former Chief Minister welcomed the passage of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha. He said the legislation would strengthen transparency and fairness in competitive examinations and help curb paper leaks and examination malpractice.
