Shimla, June 25: The Shimla district administration has finalized key arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the Apple Season 2026. A review meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner **Anupam Kashyap** discussed transport, freight rates, traffic management, labour availability, packaging material, and market logistics.
The administration directed all departments to work in coordination to ensure hassle-free transportation and marketing facilities for apple growers. SDMs have been asked to assess the requirement of transport vehicles in consultation with orchardists and transport unions, while additional trucks will be arranged from outside the district if required.
A central control room will be operational at Fagu by July 15, with facilities including CCTV surveillance and police deployment. Freight charges will be fixed on a kilogram/ton basis instead of per-box rates, considering road conditions, fuel prices, and cargo weight.
Special traffic arrangements will also be enforced during the season. Apple-laden trucks will be diverted through the Dhalli–Mehli Bypass, while restrictions will remain in place for trailers between Shimla and Theog during specified hours to ease congestion.
The administration has also instructed HPMC and HIMFED to ensure the timely supply of quality packaging material.
According to official estimates, Shimla district is expected to produce around 2.31 lakh metric tonnes of apples during the 2026–27 season, compared to 4.41 lakh metric tonnes recorded in the previous season.
