Himachal, J&K Discuss Education Reforms and Future Collaboration

Shimla, June 25: Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur met Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Education Minister Sakina Itoo during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir to discuss education reforms, innovation, and collaboration between the two states.

The meetings focused on common challenges faced by hill states, including improving access to quality education, teacher development, digital monitoring, and strengthening school education systems.

Rohit Thakur highlighted Himachal Pradesh’s recent initiatives, including CBSE affiliation for government schools, introduction of English-medium education, teacher training programmes in Singapore, collaboration with the Singapore Principals Academy and the University of Cambridge, and the UNESCO-supported HP Futures Programme. He also noted the state’s improved performance in national education rankings.

Both sides agreed that sharing experiences and best practices would help strengthen education systems and improve learning outcomes in the two Himalayan states.
