Wildlife Week Activities Held Across Kangra District

Dharamshala, October 5: The Forest Department is organising various awareness and community participation activities across Kangra district during Wildlife Week to highlight the importance of wildlife conservation, biodiversity and ecological balance.

As part of the campaign, a street play was organised at Kachahri Adda, Dharamshala, where folk artists spread awareness about wildlife protection. Forest officials and members of the public also wrote messages supporting wildlife conservation on a whiteboard.

Chief Conservator of Forests Basu Kaushal said Wildlife Week is being observed from October 2 to 8 this year with the theme *“Conservation of Wildlife for Conservation of Health and Livelihoods.”* He said wildlife is an important part of the ecosystem and its protection is essential for maintaining a healthy and balanced environment.

Activities including street plays, bird watching, nature walks and painting competitions are being organised with the participation of students, youth and local residents. The programmes focus on preventing illegal hunting, reducing human interference in forest areas and protecting natural habitats.

DFO Amit Sharma said the activities aim to develop a lasting sense of responsibility towards nature and make wildlife conservation a people’s movement. He urged the public to help maintain cleanliness in forests, prevent forest fires and adopt wildlife-sensitive practices.

Children participating in a wildlife conservation-themed painting competition were also felicitated. The department officials interacted with participants and shared information on various aspects of wildlife conservation.
