Jairam Thakur Criticises Sukhu Government Over Administrative Cost-Cutting Plan
Mandi: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur criticised Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu over his proposal to reduce the number of IAS, IPS and IFS officers in the state.
Speaking at Thunag in Mandi district on Tuesday, Thakur alleged that the government was refusing to recruit newly selected officers through UPSC while granting repeated extensions to certain retired officials. He said the government should first reduce expenditure on chairpersons, vice-chairpersons and other appointments carrying Cabinet-rank benefits.
Thakur also criticised the government over the appointment of Chief Parliamentary Secretaries and alleged that public funds were being misused. He accused the Sukhu government of increasing expenditure through political appointments while focusing on reducing administrative posts.
He further alleged that government policies had caused greater damage to the state than recent disasters, citing delays in the inauguration of a completed school building as an example.
Thakur also addressed a BJP protest and public meeting in Saraj against what he described as anti-people policies of the state government and alleged disrespect towards the national song Vande Mataram. He said the BJP would continue to raise issues concerning national pride and patriotism.
