CPI(M) Himachal Committee Raises Key Public Issues
Shimla: The CPI(M) Himachal Pradesh State Committee held its meeting in Shimla on August 17–18, attended by Politburo member Comrade Tapan Sen and chaired by Comrade Omkar Shad. State Secretary Sanjay Chauhan presented the political and organisational report.
Tapan Sen criticised the Centre’s economic and trade policies, alleging that they were increasing unemployment, inflation and pressure on workers and farmers.
The state committee raised concerns over Himachal Pradesh’s financial situation, vacant government posts, rising taxes and university fees, and opposed the implementation of the National Education Policy, closure or merger of government schools, and privatisation of the electricity sector.
The party also demanded stronger support for farmers through the Market Intervention Scheme, relief and rehabilitation for disaster-affected families, protection of forest rights and regularisation of eligible land occupations. It supported the ongoing agitation of street vendors in Shimla and appealed to people to unite against policies it described as anti-people and neoliberal.
