Himachal Legislature Building to Glow with Colourful Lights During Monsoon Session: Kuldeep Pathania
Shimla, August 18, 2026: Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Pathania said the Himachal Pradesh Legislature building will be illuminated with colourful lights during the upcoming session, adding a new dimension to the heritage and aesthetic appeal of the historic complex in Shimla.
Pathania said the illuminated building would present a striking view in the hill capital and further enhance the beauty of the historic Legislative Assembly complex.
He described the Council Chamber as a valuable heritage asset and said preserving it is a collective responsibility. He noted that construction of the building began in 1920 under the then British administration and was completed in 1925. The building also hosted the first Central Assembly, whose first elected President was Vithalbhai Patel.
The Speaker said the present Legislative Assembly complex comprises four buildings—the Council Chamber, Vithalbhai Bhawan, Administrative Building and Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Library Building. Work to strengthen the security and improve the appearance of all four buildings is now in its final stage.
He directed the Public Works Department, Electrical Wing of the Public Works Department and all other departments associated with the works to complete the remaining tasks one day before the session begins, so that there is no inconvenience or disruption during the session.
Pathania said the Legislative Assembly Secretariat is fully prepared and vigilant for the Monsoon Session. He said necessary directions had already been issued to the district administration and senior state government officials during a security review meeting to ensure effective law and order arrangements.
He further directed officials to ensure strict compliance with the directions issued by the Chair and make adequate arrangements for legislators, visitors and school students attending the session. To deal with any emergency situation, an ambulance along with a doctor and paramedical staff will remain available on the Assembly premises.
The Speaker also announced that he will interact with print, electronic and web media representatives on August 19 at 12:15 pm and address various issues.
