Shimla district bags best performance award under PMFME scheme

Shimla, September 7: Shimla district has received the Best Performance Award for effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme in Himachal Pradesh.

The award, presented by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, at the PMFME Conclave 2026 in New Delhi, was received by district nodal officer Sanjay Kanwar. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap congratulated the team, saying the recognition reflected its dedicated efforts in promoting micro food-processing enterprises and extending the benefits of the scheme to local entrepreneurs.

Under the scheme, 2,210 loan applications in Shimla district have been sanctioned, while 130 cases are under process. Since 2021, the district has received 3,297 applications, of which 3,185 were recommended to banks for loan approval.

During the current financial year, from April 1 to September 5, the District Industries Centre, Shimla, has recommended 284 new cases to various banks. The scheme aims to strengthen micro food-processing enterprises through financial, technical and institutional support, promote self-employment and increase value addition to local products.

The PMFME scheme also provides credit-linked capital subsidy, training, capacity building, and support for branding and marketing, with emphasis on the ‘One District One Product’ approach.
