Declamation contest on millets

Solan, May 20

A College level declamation contest was organized at the College of Forestry, Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni to commemorate the International Year of Millets 2023. The Director of Extension Education Dr. Inder Dev, Chairman of the University Task Force on Millets and Dr. CL Thakur, Dean College of Forestry were the chief guests of the event. Activity co-ordinator Dr. Kartikey Sahil welcomed the participants and briefed them about the activity in which 50 undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students took part.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Inder Dev, highlighted the importance of millets in our daily life. He stated that millets hold great potential in food and nutritional security and they are a powerhouse of nutrients and described the anti-diabetic and anti-cancerous properties. A declamation contest on the importance of millets was also organized on the occasion. Amisha Negi of BSc 2nd year bagged the first prize. Shaifali Sharma and Priyanka Sharma stood at second and third positions respectively.

 

Dr. Inder Dev and Dr. CL Thakur gave away cash prizes of Rs 1,500, Rs.1,000 and Rs. 500 to the students who secured the first, second and third positions respectively. The event ended with a vote of thanks from activity coordinator Dr. Chandresh Guleria. Dr. DR Bhardwaj, Prof and Head, Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry, Dr. Subhash Sharma Head, Department of Social Sciences, Dr. Anita Kumari, Dr. Neeraj Sankhyan and Dr. SamritiS were also present.
