RKMV Hosts Himachali Culinary Heritage Competitions

Shimla, Sept. 28: Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV), Shimla, organised culinary and recipe reel-making competitions under the Apna Himachal initiative as part of National Nutrition Month.

The event, held jointly by the Home Science, Zoology, Botany, Tourism, B.Voc and Rangers & Rovers departments, focused on promoting Himachal’s traditional food culture, nutritious and sustainable eating, and cultural heritage. Around 60 participants from six institutions took part.

The judging panel comprised **food expert and author Meenakshi Kanwar, Director of Feast n Folklore, Applewood Farms, Sarog, and Chef Suraj Sood of Corner Cafe, Sanjauli**, who has extensive experience working in five-star hotels.

The culinary competition featured *Young Chef* and *Adult Chef* categories. Auckland House School for Girls, St. Edward’s School and GSS School Lakkar Bazar secured the top three positions in the Young Chef category, while RKMV’s Shreya stood first in the Adult Chef category, with IHM Kufri securing second and third positions.

In the recipe reel-making competition, St. Edward’s School’s Udayveer won first place, followed by RKMV’s Suvriti and IHM Kufri.

Principal Dr. Anurita Saxena presented the prizes and highlighted the importance of preserving Himachal’s culinary traditions, describing traditional cuisine as an expression of the state’s history, local knowledge and lifestyle.
