Congress Stages Protest in Shimla Over ‘Vote Theft’ Allegations

Shimla, September 28: The district Congress committees staged protests across Himachal Pradesh on Monday following a call by the Pradesh Congress Committee over alleged “vote theft” and the functioning of the Chief Election Commissioner.

In Shimla, Rural Congress president Harikrishna Himral and Urban Congress president Inderjit Singh led the protest and submitted a memorandum to the President through the Additional Deputy Commissioner.

The memorandum raised questions over the functioning of the Chief Election Commissioner and sought his immediate removal. The Congress also alleged that names were being deleted from electoral rolls in the name of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and demanded legal action against the Chief Election Commissioner.

The Election Commission has an ongoing SIR-2026 process and provides facilities for voters to check electoral-roll entries and submit claims or objections.
