Wetlands Film Festival Concludes in Shimla, Promotes Environmental Awareness Among Students
2 min readShimla, August 31, 2024 – The two-day Wetlands Film Festival successfully concluded today at Hotel Peterhoff, Shimla, with Indian Administrative Service officer Mr. K.K. Pant presiding over the closing ceremony. The festival featured around 20 films focused on wetlands, water conservation, the environment, and natural disasters. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students of 30 schools, universities, and colleges across Himachal Pradesh.
A painting competition was also held during the festival, where students showcased their creativity and expressed a strong interest in environmental conservation through films. Mr. K.K. Pant praised the initiative, highlighting its importance in raising environmental awareness. He suggested that similar film festivals should be organized in all universities and colleges across the state.
Various speakers from across the region shared their knowledge on wetlands and environmental protection with the students. Mr. D.C. Rana, Director of Environmental Science and Technology, Himachal Pradesh, and Mr. Anil Joshi, IFS, from the Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board, were also present at the event.
In the painting competition, Kamla from Class 10, Government High School, Vikas Nagar, Shimla, secured the first position. Abhishek Kumar from Class 9, Government Senior Secondary School, Chhota Shimla, came second, and Shaifali from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, took the third spot.
Dr. Suresh C. Atri, Joint Member Secretary of HIMCOST, thanked the chief guest, speakers, and all participants during his closing remarks, assuring them of more such film festivals in the future. The program concluded with a pledge to save wetlands, administered by the chief guest, and the distribution of awards to the winners of the art competition.
