Shimla, May 7: Pratibha Singh said that the upcoming elections to four Municipal Corporations, urban local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions are extremely important for the Congress party and will determine the political direction of the state.
Addressing party leaders and office-bearers in Shimla on Wednesday, she said the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh was performing well despite difficult financial circumstances and urged people to strengthen the government by supporting the party in the elections.
She appealed to party leaders, newly appointed organisational office-bearers, district and block presidents to work unitedly to ensure the party’s victory, calling the elections their “first major test” in the organisation.
Remembering six-time former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Pratibha Singh said he never took any election lightly, which helped strengthen Congress’ grassroots support in the state over the years.
She stressed the need for early expansion of the party organisation and assigning responsibilities to dedicated workers, while also asking the party to begin preparations for the Assembly elections scheduled next year.
