Rishikesh, 26 January 2025: THDC India Limited, a Mini-Ratna PSU, marked a significant milestone by declaring the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of Unit #1 of the 1320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Plant (KSTPP) at midnight on January 25, 2025. This landmark achievement reinforces THDCIL’s expertise in thermal power generation, complementing its established prowess in hydropower.
The COD of the 2×660 MW KSTPP signifies the plant’s readiness for stable and efficient electricity supply to the grid. R.K. Vishnoi, CMD, highlighted the rigorous testing, including synchronization, full-load trials, and a 72-hour trial run, ensuring compliance with all performance and regulatory standards. The plant will supply power to Uttar Pradesh (64.7%), Rajasthan (21.3%), Uttarakhand (3.9%), and unallocated regions (10.1%).
A key feature of the KSTPP is the Flue Gas De-sulphurization (FGD) system, which reduces SO₂ emissions, ensuring environmental sustainability. This system was completed in record time, setting a benchmark for eco-friendly thermal power projects.
Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), commended the team’s dedication, while Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), emphasized the project’s role in controlling emissions. Sipan Kumar Garg, Director (Finance), lauded the project’s financial and strategic impact, asserting its contribution to India’s energy infrastructure and economic growth.
In addition to KSTPP, THDCIL is advancing major projects like the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Plant and the 444 MW Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project.
