Storytelling Session to Spark Children’s Imagination at Gaiety Theatre
Shimla, September 23: The Department of Language, Art and Culture, Himachal Pradesh, will organise a storytelling programme, “Ek Thi Baat,” at Gaiety Theatre, Shimla, on September 24 at 11 am to connect children with literature and creativity.
Around 40 students of Government Excellence Senior Secondary School, Chhota Shimla, will participate in the programme. Senior litterateur Anurag Parashar will narrate two stories, while two students will also present their own storytelling sessions.
The programme is aimed at nurturing imagination, creative thinking, language skills, vocabulary, listening and comprehension abilities among children. Storytelling on stage will also help boost their confidence, reduce hesitation and encourage effective public expression.
The initiative will further encourage students to develop an interest in reading, writing and creating their own stories while helping them understand human values and emotions through literature.
The programme will also provide students an opportunity to interact directly with writers and experience literature beyond textbooks. The department plans to organise similar storytelling sessions during the last week of every month on Bag-Free Days, with participation from different schools.
