Shimla, January 12: The District-level NCORD (Narco Coordination Centre) Committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap through video conferencing to review strategies for curbing drug abuse and trafficking. The meeting discussed strict action against drug use, enforcement against public drinking, and strengthening panchayat-level anti-drug campaigns to make Himachal drug-free.
The DC informed that 248 anti-drug committees have already been formed in the district, helping the administration gather inputs on drug networks. He also announced a one-day workshop on January 18 in Shimla, involving SDMs, DSPs, District Attorneys, Assistant District Attorneys, DFOs and other officials, focusing on improving investigation quality and addressing high acquittal rates in drug-related cases to ensure stronger prosecution.
During the meeting, road safety measures were also reviewed under the ongoing Road Safety Month. Referring to the Haripurdhar bus accident in Sirmaur, the DC directed awareness among drivers against overloading of commercial vehicles and stressed strict fitness compliance. The District Transport Officer was instructed to ensure strict enforcement of traffic and transport rules to reduce road accidents.
