Nauni varsity gets new Dean of Students’ Welfare and Librarian

Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, has appointed Dr. Hari Paul Sankhyan as the new Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) and Dr. D.R. Bhardwaj has taken over as the Librarian of the Satyanand Stokes Library in the university.

Dr. Sankhyan, who joined as the Dean of Students’ Welfare last week, previously served as the University’s Librarian. During his tenure as Librarian, he played a pivotal role in launching the Bachelor of Library and Information Science (B. Lib) programme and establishing a dedicated section for religious literature. He also served as the Head of the Department of Tree Improvement and Genetic Resources. Dr. Sankhyan has guided several M.Sc. and Ph.D. students and has overseen various ad-hoc projects. As the new Dean of Students’ Welfare, Dr. Sankhyan expressed his commitment to working relentlessly for the betterment of the students. His primary focus will be to enhance health facilities, promote sports and foster cultural activities within the university. He also targets to improve the university gymnasium and upgrade essential amenities in the hostels.


Meanwhile, Dr. D.R. Bhardwaj has joined the university as the Librarian of the SatyaNand Stokes Library. Prior to this, he was serving as the Head of the Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry in the College of Forestry. Dr. Bhardwaj has made significant contributions to research on the propagation of bamboo and other Himalayan tree species. He has also studied the effects of climate change on agroforestry and forest systems, while developing mitigation strategies for carbon sequestration through agroforestry models. He has also served as the member of the Supreme Court appointed Green Felling Committee in Himachal.

Dr. Bhardwaj stated that his key objective will be to advance the innovative initiatives within the university library. His team is focused on enhancing library services and introducing new library tools to improve accessibility and resources. Additionally, Dr. Rohit Bishist has taken charge as the Head of the Department of Silviculture & Agroforestry.
