Media plays vital role in educating society and promoting positive changes: Governor

Governor Kavinder Gupta said that the media is a vital part of democracy. Besides delivering news, it helps educate people, shape public opinion, and inspire positive change in society.

He was speaking at the launch of High Flyer, a coffee table book featuring inspiring achievers from Himachal Pradesh, the Governor praised the initiative for recognizing individuals who have made valuable contributions to the state’s progress and development. He also honoured several people whose achievements are highlighted in the publication.

Congratulating the awardees, he said that their dedication, hard work, and commitment have helped build a more inclusive and progressive society. Their success stories can inspire future generations, especially young people, to work towards their goals with confidence and determination.

The Governor said that Himachal Pradesh, known for its natural beauty, rich culture, and traditions, has always been a land of talent and potential. He said that the youth is the torchbearers of the state’s future and said that platforms like High Flyer encourage excellence, innovation and aspiration by celebrating real-life role models.

Expressing concern over the rising problem of drug abuse, he said that it is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and poses a serious threat to the future of young people. He said that social problems often increase when people cut off with their cultural values and roots.

He said that government efforts alone cannot eliminate the menace of drugs. Success is possible only when society remains alert, actively participates in awareness campaigns and supports preventive measures. He also stressed that the media has a major responsibility in spreading awareness about substance abuse and motivating people to join the fight against drugs.

Earlier, Editor Bavindra Vashisht welcomed the Governor and briefed that the objective of the book is to recognize, celebrate and share the stories of outstanding achievers from different fields across Himachal Pradesh.

Bureau Chief Suresh Shandilya proposed a vote of thanks.

Prominent personalities from various fields, media representatives and distinguished guests were also present on the occasion.
