HPNLU Shimla Organises Nukkad Natak on Environmental Awareness and Drug Awareness
Shimla, 2 November 2026
The Legal Aid Clinic, Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the leadership and guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, organised a Nukkad Natak at 16 Mile Chowk, District Shimla, , as part of the Legal Awareness Week being observed during the first week of November in connection with National Legal Services Day, celebrated on 9 November.
The Nukkad Natak highlighted the struggles of a distressed family facing the consequences of environmental neglect and administrative apathy. Through a thought-provoking narrative, the performance drew attention to the hardships faced by ordinary citizens and the tendency of institutions to downplay pressing environmental concerns rather than undertake meaningful remedial measures. A reference to Nepal also highlighted the regional and cross-border dimensions of environmental challenges and the need for preparedness, accountability and effective institutional responses.
As part of the initiative, the Legal Aid Clinic also conducted a drug awareness campaign through the distribution of informational pamphlets among local residents. The campaign aimed to sensitise the public about the legal implications of drug-related offences, awareness of legal rights and safeguards, and the risks associated with wrongful implication in such cases.
The initiative received an encouraging response from local residents and reinforced the importance of community-based legal awareness programmes in promoting informed citizenship and collective responsibility. Dr. Chandreshwari Minhas, Chairperson, Legal Aid Clinic, and Dr. Narinder Sharma, Member, Legal Aid Clinic, organized the event.
