Shimla, May 31, 2025: Loreto Convent Tara Hall, Shimla, organized interactive sessions on Safe Touch and Personal Boundaries for its primary and middle school students, led by Kalpana Sharma, an alumna of the school and currently an educator at Rajghat Besant School under the Krishnamurti Foundation of India.
The first session, conducted for students of Grades 6 to 8, focused on differentiating between safe and unsafe touch, growing-up concerns, and body positivity. Students were also made aware of Childline 1098 and introduced to Menstrupedia, a resource promoting menstrual health education. Kalpana emphasized the importance of setting personal boundaries, speaking up, and becoming upstanders.
For Grades 2 to 5, the session was simplified with visual aids and role-play. Children were taught to say a firm “No” and to report any discomfort to a trusted adult. Teachers helped enact everyday situations to reinforce the learning.
The sessions were conducted voluntarily by Ms. Sharma as a tribute to her late mother, Smt. Usha Sharma, founder of BSN School, Shimla. Principal Ms. Reetu Khanna extended her gratitude for the initiative that helped foster awareness, confidence, and safety among students.
