Mandi, May 31: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur on Saturday claimed that the BJP’s strong performance in municipal corporation and Panchayati Raj elections reflected growing public support for the party and declining confidence in the Congress-led state government.
Addressing a victory rally in Mandi, Thakur said BJP had secured victories in three of the four municipal corporations in the state and alleged that voters had rejected what he termed as Congress’s “unfulfilled guarantees” and governance failures.
He claimed that BJP-backed candidates had also performed strongly in the recently concluded Panchayati Raj elections, with around 70 percent of elected representatives supporting the party’s ideology. According to Thakur, the election results indicate public endorsement of BJP’s development agenda and leadership.
The BJP leader accused the state government of attempting to influence elections through announcements and inducements, allegations that the Congress has denied in the past. He further asserted that the results reflected public trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and governance model.
Several senior BJP leaders, including MLAs and party office-bearers, were present during the rally and congratulated party workers for the electoral performance.
