A meeting chaired by the Union Health Secretary on January 6, 2025, addressed Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV) cases recently reported in Karnataka. The virus, commonly affecting children and immunocompromised individuals, presents symptoms like cough, fever, nasal congestion, and, in severe cases, shortness of breath. The Centre assured that hMPV is a mild, non-severe infection, urging precaution without panic.
Following this, Himachal Pradesh’s Health Secretary directed all medical colleges and district health officers to monitor influenza-like and acute respiratory cases.
