Healthy Choices Are the Foundation of a Bright Future: Kewal Singh Pathania

Dharamshala, August 12: A district-level youth conference was organised at the auditorium of Government Degree College, Dharamshala, on the occasion of International Youth Day. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Degree College Dharamshala, Anubhav Trust and Goonj, with the theme “Healthy Choice for Bright Future.”

Around 100 educational institutions from across the district participated in the conference, where students shared their views on healthy lifestyles, staying away from substance abuse and building a better future. Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania attended the event as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Pathania said International Youth Day provides an opportunity to recognise the potential, talent and social responsibilities of young people. He said today’s youth will lead society and the nation tomorrow, making it essential for families, educational institutions and society to work together to nurture healthy, disciplined and responsible citizens.

He urged young people to stay away from substance abuse and engage in education, sports, creative activities and community service. He also called upon them to adopt healthy choices themselves and encourage their peers and other members of society to do the same.

Pathania said the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has accorded high priority to combating drug abuse and is conducting a comprehensive anti-chitta campaign. He called upon the youth to actively participate in the campaign and spread awareness among young people about the harmful effects of drugs.

He said substance abuse not only damages an individual’s health but also weakens the social and economic fabric of families and communities. He encouraged students to set positive goals in life and channel their energy towards education, sports and creative pursuits.

On the occasion, Pathania visited the talent exhibition organised by students and formally inaugurated Anubhav Trust. He also appreciated the activities undertaken by Anubhav Trust and Goonj.

Pathania announced a contribution of ₹1 lakh from his discretionary fund for the organisers.
