Hamirpur Taxi Operators Briefed on NALSA Legal Aid Schemes

District Legal Services Authority conducts legal awareness camp

Hamirpur, August 25: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Hamirpur, organised a legal awareness camp at the office premises of the Veerbhumi Taxi Operators Union near the bus stand on Tuesday. The camp was organised in collaboration with the Transport Department and other departments and was chaired by DLSA Secretary Kuldeep Sharma.

Addressing taxi operators, drivers and other participants, Sharma said that the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has introduced several schemes to ensure easy access to justice, with free legal aid being one of the key initiatives.

He said SC/ST persons, women, children, persons with disabilities, disaster victims, victims of atrocities, workers, transgender persons, prisoners and people from all categories with an annual income below ₹3 lakh are eligible for free legal aid.

He informed participants that the application process is simple and eligible persons can approach the Front Office established at any court complex to seek assistance. NALSA has also introduced schemes for victims of human trafficking, people living in slums, unorganised sector workers, persons affected by substance abuse, victims of atrocities and women affected by acid attacks.

Sharma said legal assistance can also be sought through the NALSA helpline 15100. Panel lawyers and Para-Legal Volunteers are made available by the legal services authorities to provide free legal assistance.

He further highlighted the role of National Lok Adalats in expediting the disposal of pending cases. He said cases can also be resolved through mediation and mutual settlement, enabling people to settle disputes quickly and conveniently.

Participants were also briefed about important provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, NDPS Act and other relevant laws.
