Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has raised serious concerns over the growing drug menace in Himachal Pradesh, alleging a nexus between drug mafias, police, and politicians. He called on Chief Minister to clarify the government’s stance and actions on the issue.
Thakur stated that the state has witnessed four drug overdose deaths in the past three weeks, which is alarming. He questioned how the government plans to combat the drug crisis when over 60 individuals linked to politics and law enforcement are allegedly involved in the trade. He demanded a transparent explanation from the Chief Minister regarding media reports exposing these links.
He further accused the current government of providing political protection to drug cartels, which has weakened administrative actions. Citing examples, he claimed that police officers acting against drug mafias have faced political interference, including transfers. He specifically mentioned the case of an SIT arresting a Congress leader’s son in Bilaspur, leading to the entire team’s transfer.
Jairam Thakur reiterated BJP’s commitment to eradicating drugs and recalled the party’s resolution passed on July 19, 2024, in Una. He urged the government to act decisively and assured the opposition’s full support in any effective anti-drug campaign.
