Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur participated in the general discussion on the Union Budget 2025-26 in Parliament, calling it a roadmap for a “Developed India.” He stated that this budget embodies the journey from resolution to accomplishment.

Thakur highlighted key budget provisions, such as zero tax up to ₹12 lakh, and emphasized the Modi government’s commitment to eradicating poverty by 2047, providing quality education, affordable healthcare, skill development for workers, and increasing women’s participation in the economy to 70%. He criticized the opposition for being disconnected from the concerns of the poor and middle class.

Comparing BJP’s governance with the Congress era, Thakur claimed that “UPA was a period of scams, while Modi’s tenure represents an empowered India.” He underscored that previous budgets prioritized “family welfare,” whereas the current one focuses on “national welfare.” The budget outlines development in ten key sectors, emphasizing support for women, youth, farmers, and the underprivileged.

He cited government achievements, including assistance to 10.61 lakh women under Mission Shakti, an increase in the sex ratio at birth from 918 (2014-15) to 930 (2023-24), and a rise in gross enrollment of girls in secondary education from 75.51% to 78% (2014-2024). Additionally, PM Mudra Yojana (PMMY) funding has increased from ₹1,478.73 crore (2021-22) to ₹1,814.86 crore (2023-24), and maternal mortality rate (MMR) has dropped from 130 (2014-16) to 97 (2018-20).

On employment, Thakur asserted that the NDA government has provided 1.5 times more government jobs than the UPA. Under SSC, 511,775 recruitments were made (compared to UPA’s 256,405), and RRB hired 492,605 candidates (compared to UPA’s 411,624). Women’s participation in job fairs increased from 7-8% under UPA to 18-20% under NDA. Reserved category recruitments rose by 150%, with 293,475 appointments under NDA versus 108,034 under UPA.

Discussing agriculture, he noted that 94% of land records have been digitized under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Program (DILRMP). Under PMKSY, 47.46% of irrigation projects have been completed. Additionally, the PM Kisan Maandhan Yojana (PMKMY) for small and marginal farmers has enrolled over 1.9 million beneficiaries.
