DC Directs Banks to Raise Credit-Deposit Ratio in Chamba

Chamba, September 24: Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal chaired a meeting of the District Level Consultative Committee and District Level Review Committee of Lead Bank Chamba here on Thursday to review banking activities and progress under the Annual Credit Plan for the quarter ending June 2026.

The Deputy Commissioner directed banks to adopt effective strategies to improve the district’s credit-deposit ratio and ensure timely disposal of loan proposals sponsored under various government schemes. He stressed increasing credit flow to agriculture, Kisan Credit Cards, MSMEs, education, self-employment and other priority sectors.

The district’s credit-deposit ratio stood at 35.33 per cent during the quarter, showing a marginal improvement over the previous quarter. Repswal directed banks to work towards the 40 per cent benchmark in line with RBI guidelines.

Under the Annual Credit Plan 2026-27, loans worth Rs 162.03 crore were disbursed to the agriculture sector and Rs 215.32 crore to MSMEs up to June. A total of 48,430 KCC accounts covering crop loans, animal husbandry and fisheries have been included.

The meeting also reviewed financial inclusion schemes. Under PM Jan Dhan Yojana, 1,91,599 accounts have been opened. RSETI Chamba has trained 8,990 candidates through 352 programmes, with 7,271 subsequently linked to employment or self-employment.

Repswal directed banks and departments to strengthen coordination and ensure timely delivery of credit and banking services to eligible beneficiaries.
