Bhupendra Elected Chairman, Bharat Singh Kalanta Vice-Chairman of Shimla Zila Parishad
Shimla, September 10, 2026: The election for the posts of Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Shimla Zila Parishad was conducted peacefully and successfully today at Bachat Bhawan as per the prescribed procedure.
The election proceedings were conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Shimla and Presiding Officer Anupam Kashyap.
For the post of Chairman, Bhupendra and Surender Retka were in the fray, while Bharat Singh Kalanta and Meenakshi contested for the post of Vice-Chairman.
In the election for Chairman, Bhupendra secured 13 votes, while Surender Retka received 10 votes. Two votes were declared invalid. Accordingly, Bhupendra was declared elected as the Chairman of Shimla Zila Parishad.
For the post of Vice-Chairman, Bharat Singh Kalanta secured 14 votes, while Meenakshi received 10 votes. One vote was declared invalid, following which Bharat Singh Kalanta was declared elected as Vice-Chairman of Shimla Zila Parishad.
Following completion of the election process, Deputy Commissioner and Presiding Officer Anupam Kashyap administered the prescribed oath of office to the newly elected Chairman Bhupendra and Vice-Chairman Bharat Singh Kalanta.
Congratulating the newly elected office-bearers, the Deputy Commissioner expressed hope that they would discharge their responsibilities with dedication, transparency and accountability. He said that the Zila Parishad plays an important role in rural development and public welfare, and expressed confidence that under the leadership of the newly elected representatives, development activities in the rural areas of the district would receive further momentum.
The election process was completed in a peaceful and orderly manner, with concerned officials and staff present on the occasion.
