DC Urges More People to Join Red Cross Society
Hamirpur, October 7: Deputy Commissioner and District Red Cross Society President Gandharva Rathore urged more people to join the society and contribute to its humanitarian activities.
Chairing a meeting with office-bearers, patrons and life members, Rathore said the society works to support poor, helpless and needy people. She said 749 people are currently associated with the district society, including 730 life members and 19 patrons.
She said Red Cross units have been formed in all subdivisions, while Youth Red Cross and Junior Red Cross units are being established in educational institutions. Junior Red Cross units in 56 schools have enrolled 3,278 students, who are also participating in anti-drug awareness rallies.
During 2025-26, the society provided assistance of around Rs 7.30 lakh to 60 needy people. Its laboratory at the Medical College Hospital offers various diagnostic tests at affordable rates, while ambulance services are available at Rs 15 per kilometre.
The society also organised 10 blood donation camps, collecting around 395 units of blood, besides five medical camps. Health camps were held for persons with disabilities and residents of slum areas. Under the TB-free campaign, 10 patients have been adopted and provided nutritional kits.
The society has also undertaken cleanliness and plantation drives and launched an initiative to collect unused clothes from households for distribution among needy people. Rathore invited suggestions from life members and patrons for further expansion of Red Cross activities.
During the meeting, life member Shambhu Ram Jaswal contributed Rs 5,100 to the society on the occasion of his son and daughter-in-law’s birthday.
