Ensure Effective Door-to-Door Collection of Plastic Waste: DC Chamba

Chamba, October 7: Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal directed officials to ensure effective door-to-door collection of plastic waste in adopted gram panchayats under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin.

Chairing a review meeting with Block Development Officers, Repaswal directed officials to complete the adoption process in the remaining panchayats during upcoming Gram Sabha meetings. He also asked them to prioritise plastic waste collection in semi-urban areas during the first phase and review plastic waste management sites and monthly user-fee arrangements.

The DC said the adoption process for plastic waste management under the 2026 rules has been completed in 159 gram panchayats of the district. Around 102 tonnes of plastic waste has been sent to a cement plant from Bharmour block in the past two months, including waste collected during the Manimahesh Yatra. Chamba block has sent around 30 quintals, while Salooni has collected two quintals of baled plastic waste.

Door-to-door collection has started in Bhajjaradu and Tissa-1 panchayats in Tissa block and Bharmour and Holi panchayats in Bharmour block. Pilot collection will soon begin in Sihunta and Chhalara panchayats of Bhatiyat, while collection in Mehla block will start from November 1. Four zones have been identified for the initiative in Pangi.

Repaswal also directed officials to adopt a targeted approach under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, complete online data entry under the Mukhyamantri Apna Parivar Sukhi Parivar Yojana, and ensure timely disposal of pending works and departmental inquiry cases.
