Give impetus to coordinated efforts for drug eradication and road safety: ADC

Meeting of N-CORD and District Road Safety Committee held

Una, September 28. To make the campaign against drug abuse in the district more effective and comprehensive, as well as to strengthen the road safety system, all the concerned departments should ensure timely action with mutual coordination. Drug eradication and road safety are important issues related to public interest, for the effective implementation of which active participation of the administration, police, various departments and the general public is necessary. Additional Deputy Commissioner Una Ishant Jaswal said this while presiding over the meeting of the District Level Committee and District Road Safety Committee constituted under N-CORD (National Narco Coordination Portal) in the DRDA auditorium, Una today.

Raising awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse in schools

At the N-CORD Committee meeting, the Additional Deputy Commissioner directed schools to make awareness activities about the ill effects of drug abuse more effective. He urged officials from the Education and Health departments to make continuous efforts to educate children and youth about the ill effects of drug abuse, as well as to engage them in sports, education, creative activities, and other positive outlets.

He said that children and youth who are at risk of being drawn to drugs should be identified early and provided with appropriate counseling and guidance to guide them in a positive direction. He said that by channeling the energy of youth into creative and positive activities, a strong social environment against drug addiction can be created.

Instructions for regular monitoring of medical stores

The Additional Deputy Commissioner directed drug inspectors, police, and related departments to conduct regular and surprise inspections of medical stores and chemist shops. He urged continuous monitoring of drug sales, available stock, and related records. If any irregularities are discovered, action should be taken as per the rules, so that the illegal sale of banned and potentially abused drugs can be effectively curbed.

Prioritize road safety around schools, colleges and hospitals.

At a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee, the ADC directed that road safety measures be strengthened on a priority basis around schools, colleges, and hospitals located on major roads. He said that sensitive locations should be identified and necessary signage, traffic management, and other necessary safety measures should be ensured there, so that students, patients, pedestrians, and drivers can enjoy safe and smooth travel.

He directed the police department to increase regular patrolling around educational institutions so that effective monitoring can be done on vehicles parked unnecessarily or roaming around outside the institutions.

Instructions for effective monitoring in no-parking and no-vending zones

The Additional Deputy Commissioner directed the effective enforcement of designated no-parking and no-vending zones in the district’s major markets. He directed the SDM, police, national highway, and municipal officials to ensure regular monitoring in their respective areas to ensure smooth traffic flow and ensure smooth and uninterrupted transportation for the public.

The ADC directed the Regional Transport Officer, Police, and Public Works Department to prepare a detailed analytical report on road accidents in the district and present it at the next meeting. This report will include details of accident locations, number of accidents, possible causes, and other relevant aspects. He stated that conducting a scientific and factual analysis of the causes of accidents will help identify vulnerable locations and effectively implement necessary road safety measures there.

25,000 rupees incentive for those who help during the golden hour

The ADC, while providing information about the Good Samaritan Scheme, stated that anyone who helps save the life of a road accident victim by transporting them to the hospital within the golden hour is awarded an incentive of 25,000 rupees and a citation. He urged people to demonstrate human sensitivity during road accidents and come forward to help those in need.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner stated that the district administration, with the cooperation of all relevant departments, social organizations, youth, and the general public, is continuously striving to achieve the goal of a drug-free and safe Una. He called on all departments to effectively discharge their responsibilities, strengthen coordination, and further accelerate these important public welfare campaigns.
