Health Department initiates recruitment process for 228 Medical Officers

On the directives of Chief Minister Thakur Suhkvinder Singh Sukhu, the Health and Family Welfare Department has initiated the process for recruitment of 228 Medical Officers (General Wing) to further strengthen the healthcare delivery system and ensure adequate availability of doctors in government health institutions across Himachal Pradesh. The recruitment process includes 70 backlog posts and 158 fresh posts, providing an opportunity to fill existing vacancies as well as meet the emerging requirements of the health sector. A proposal in this regard has been sent to HP Public Service Commission for filling up the posts of medical officers.

The State Government has also initiated the process for filling up one post of Assistant Professor (Super Speciality) in Gastroenterology by promotion under the Department of Medical Education and Research.

It is pertinent to highlight that the State Government had also appointed 194 doctors including 118 specialists during the current month after completion of their postgraduate courses and senior residency tenures. These medical officers have been deployed in various civil hospitals, community health centres, regional hospitals, zonal hospitals and medical colleges across the State.

A Spokesman of the Health and Family Welfare Department said that the recruitment and appointment processes reflect the Government’s continued efforts to strengthen human resources in the health sector and improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services to the people nearer to their doorsteps.

He said that the Government was giving priority to strengthening the health infrastructure as well as ensuring adequate availability of doctors and other medical professionals. The filling up of vacancies through fresh recruitment and the appointment of newly recruited Medical Officers will contribute towards improving healthcare services and reducing the burden on existing medical staff, he added.
