Inter-college shooting championship begins at Shimla
Shimla, September 9: The three-day Himachal Pradesh University Inter-College Shooting Championship for men and women began at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex here on Wednesday. The championship is being hosted by Government College for Girls, Shimla.
A total of 110 participants, including 66 men and 44 women, from 21 colleges affiliated with Himachal Pradesh University are taking part in the competition.
Principal Dr Anurita Saxena, who was the chief guest at the inaugural function, said shooting was not merely a sport but a combination of concentration, discipline, patience and self-control. She highlighted the equal participation of men and women and encouraged the players to value sportsmanship above medals.
Sunil Pratap Singh Banshtu was present as the special guest. Professor Vikrant attended as supervisor, while internationally qualified judge Ravindra Kumar and Rifle Association office-bearers Vikrant Rana and Rajiv Sood were also present.
College officials, team in-charges and members of the organising committee also attended the inaugural ceremony.
