Child Welfare Committee Seeks Status Report in Kangra Student Suicide Case

The Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Kangra, has sought a status report from Khundian Police in connection with the alleged suicide of a 14-year-old student, who reportedly died following harassment at a school and hostel in Lower Sunhet under Dehra subdivision. Taking suo motu cognisance of the incident based on media reports, the committee expressed serious concern over incidents of student harassment in schools and resolved to examine the case after receiving the preliminary investigation report.

CWC Chairperson Vikramjeet Sharma said the committee, comprising members Sangeeta Gautam, Vijay Kumar, Vikas and Nareshta Kumari, discussed the matter in a meeting and decided to seek a detailed report. He said further action would be taken as per legal provisions after reviewing the findings.

According to preliminary information, Khundian Police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the school’s Managing Director, Principal, Hostel Warden and a school bus driver based on a complaint lodged by the student’s family. The investigation is underway.
