The Health Department in Hamirpur will organise Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination sessions in schools, wherever required, to achieve 100 per cent coverage under the ongoing campaign to protect girls aged 14-15 years against cervical cancer. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ajay Atri has directed all Block Medical Officers to prepare school-wise vaccination schedules and ensure strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the department.
Dr. Atri said persistent HPV infection is responsible for nearly 99.7 per cent of cervical cancer cases and that cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women after breast cancer. He said the vaccination campaign aims to provide long-term protection against the disease and urged eligible beneficiaries to take advantage of the programme.
