HPNLU Shimla Organises Special Lecture Series on Gender Justice

Shimla, 6 November 2026

The Centre for Philosophy and Comparative Law Studies (CPCLS), Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the leadership of Prof (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice Chancellor, HPNLU, Shimla, organised a special lecture series from 3 to 6 November 2026, featuring distinguished academicians Prof. (Dr.) Ved Kumari, Former Vice-Chancellor, National Law University Odisha, and Prof. (Dr.) Rajiv Gupta, Former Head and Dean, Department of Sociology, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. The lectures were attended by faculty members, research scholars and postgraduate students.

Prof. (Dr.) Ved Kumari delivered two lectures on 3rd and 4th November on the themes of “Gender Justice and Jurisprudence” and “Operationalisation of Hypotheses in Research”. Highlighting the relationship between law and gender, she observed that the dominant structure of law largely represents male values. She emphasised that law students and researchers must remain sensitive to the values and experiences of different genders so that law can become more pluralistic and emancipatory, thereby advancing the cause of gender justice.

On 5th and 6th November, Prof. (Dr.) Rajiv Gupta delivered two lectures on “Theory Building, Models and Paradigms in Research” and “Critical Social Research”. He highlighted the importance of theory building in academic research and emphasised that research must be understood in the context of social structures and social functions. He further encouraged researchers to bring marginalised subjects and perspectives into academic discourse.

The lecture series provided an enriching academic platform for participants to engage with contemporary debates on gender justice, jurisprudence, research methodology and critical social inquiry. It also encouraged interdisciplinary thinking and strengthened the research orientation of faculty members and students. The programme was organised by Prof. (Dr.) Chanchal Kumar Singh, Director, CPCLS, along with the Centre’s team.
