Shimla, June 11: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on Wednesday claimed that the recent local body election results reflect a strong grassroots mandate in favour of the BJP, asserting that the outcome has exposed growing public dissatisfaction with the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh.

Addressing mediapersons in Shimla, Thakur alleged that the state government was attempting to influence the post-election environment and called upon the ruling party to respect the democratic verdict. He claimed that BJP-backed candidates had received widespread public support across the state and accused the government of exerting pressure on newly elected representatives.

The BJP leader also took aim at the Congress leadership over internal differences and allegations exchanged within the party, stating that the developments have raised serious questions about the functioning of the government.

During the day, newly elected Zila Parishad member Khush Vikram Sen from the Chamiyana ward met Jairam Thakur in Shimla. Congratulating the newly elected representatives, Thakur expressed confidence that they would work towards the development of their respective areas and fulfil public expectations.

Separately, the former Chief Minister spoke with the family of Hamirpur resident Aditya Sharma, who is reportedly missing following an incident in the Gulf of Oman. Thakur assured the family of all possible support and said efforts were being made to coordinate with the concerned authorities. He expressed hope for Sharma’s safe return and extended solidarity with the family during the difficult period.
