Shimla, June 5: Marking World Environment Day 2026 with a strong message of environmental stewardship, the 133 Ecological Task Force (Dogra) launched a series of plantation, awareness and cleanliness initiatives across Shimla district as part of its ambitious mission to plant an additional 75,000 saplings across Himachal Pradesh.
The celebrations began with an environmental awareness programme at ARTRAC, where lectures and interactive sessions highlighted the importance of climate action, biodiversity conservation and sustainable living. The initiative focused on sensitising youth and participants towards their role in protecting the environment.
A major plantation drive was carried out on the slopes of Kufri with active participation from the 133 Ecological Task Force, IIHM Catering and Nutrition Kufri, Waste Warriors, Gram Panchayat Kufri, Wildlife Division Shimla and the Himalayan Nature Park staff. Indigenous saplings were planted to strengthen green cover and restore ecologically sensitive areas.
Another plantation campaign was organised at Chinni Bungalow, Kufri, in collaboration with the Wildlife Division, Shimla. Led by Range Officer Vineeta Bhardwaj, the drive reinforced community-led conservation efforts and ecological restoration in the region.
Promoting cleanliness alongside conservation, a large-scale cleanliness drive was conducted across Kufri involving local institutions, NGOs and community representatives. The campaign focused on responsible waste management and raising awareness among tourists and residents about preserving the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.
As part of the celebrations, a plantation drive was also held at Radisson Kufri, where personnel planted native tree species to enhance ecological balance and contribute to long-term environmental sustainability.
Officials said the collective participation of government agencies, educational institutions, NGOs, local bodies and citizens reflected a shared commitment towards creating a greener, cleaner and more sustainable Himachal Pradesh. The 133 Ecological Task Force continues to play a crucial role in afforestation, biodiversity conservation and environmental awareness across the state.
