Shimla: In a major step towards improving learning outcomes in government schools, Samagra Shiksha Himachal Pradesh conducted a statewide baseline assessment for Class 6 students under the Learning Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2.0.

More than 68,000 students from 4,677 government middle, high and senior secondary schools participated in the assessment, which evaluated students’ learning levels in Science, Mathematics, English and Hindi.

The initiative aims to identify learning outcome gaps among students and help schools and teachers provide targeted academic support based on individual learning needs.

Based on the assessment findings, the bottom 25 percent academically weak students will receive special remedial support under a focused intervention programme. The initiative is designed to strengthen foundational learning and improve academic performance through customised teaching strategies and support systems.

An endline assessment will also be conducted after the remedial programme to measure improvement in students’ learning levels and evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention.

The assessment process was conducted through OMR-based answer sheets to ensure transparency and uniformity across the state. The OMR sheets are being scanned and processed using the Vidya Samiksha Kendra’s SwiftChat application, making the evaluation process faster, technology-driven and efficient.

Samagra Shiksha Director Rajesh Sharma said the baseline assessment under LEP 2.0 is an important initiative to understand the actual learning levels of students and ensure that weaker learners receive timely academic assistance for meaningful improvement.
